Harris County Department of Education’s newest Board Trustee, Silky Joshi Malik, was officially sworn in on April 16. In March, she was unanimously appointed to fulfill the remainder of the term for Position 7, At-Large, which expires in December 2026. The seat was previously held by David Brown, who stepped down in January 2025.

Following the ceremony, Malik joined her fellow HCDE trustees for the April regular board meeting.

She began her tenure with the Department during a board member orientation on April 9. Malik joined Superintendent James Colbert Jr. for a tour of facilities – they visited the Adult Education Learning Center, Coolwood Head Start center and Academic and Behavior School (ABS) East.
