A number of Harris County Department of Education male leadership members serve Head Start campuses as SuperMENtors, and in doing so, go above and beyond in helping some of the county’s youngest learners.

Dr. Tyrone Sylvester, HCDE’s Chief Human Resources Officer, serves at Fonwood Early Childhood Center, which offers the Head Start program through a partnership with Houston Independent School District campus. While he only reads to one class, school leadership saw Dr. Sylvester’s impact and invited him to be the keynote speaker for the campus-wide pre-K celebration on May 26. He congratulated the students, parents and campus staff, recognizing each group as “Superheroes” in ensuring the young learners are prepared for kindergarten.
