Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) leaders and community volunteers were celebrated this week as part of the Head Start Real SuperMENtors Read Program. Each May, Head Start campuses honor their SuperMENtors for their yearlong commitment to serving Harris County’s youngest learners. Following introductions in September, the male role models visit monthly to read to students through April.

Superintendent James Colbert Jr., and assistant superintendents Jonathan Park, Dr. CJ Rodgers and Dr. Tyrone Sylvester were among those to visit students on May 14. In total, more than 40 volunteers served the 12 Head Start centers.

Students made personalized gifts and cards to thank mentors for their impact to the program. A number were also treated to song and dance performances.
