Academic and Behavior School East and West principals Mercedes Love and Jatata Hutton joined Special Schools division leadership on a visit April 2 to Seguin Independent School District to study the Behavior Reset Center. Designed by Heinsight Behavior and with deescalation at its forefront, the initiative helps reduce classroom disruptions and increase instructional time through a proactive, student-centered approach.
The Behavior Reset Center will be used in ABS East and ABS West’s Out-of-Class Intervention classroom, which provides students with a structured space focused on developing self-regulation and self-help skills before disciplinary measures are needed. It is scheduled to replace the Boys town program currently used at both campuses.
Leadership was also impressed with more specialized behavior programming for students with more complex needs, in addition to ongoing professional development for staff members to ensure they are equipped with best practices to feel confident managing challenging behaviors.
