The Education Foundation of Harris County (EFHC) hosted a kickoff event on March 19 to build excitement for its Third Annual Heart of Education Luncheon. This year’s theme, “Backpacks to Briefcases: Building Skills for Tomorrow’s Workforce,” will spotlight the impact CASE for Kids has in preparing students for success beyond the classroom.

Guests were introduced to the luncheon’s honoree, Donna Cole, a longtime public school advocate and founding funder of the CASE for Kids Ecobot Program, which promotes STEM learning among middle school students. They also had the opportunity to network with afterschool providers, who shared insights into how the division connects learning to real-world activities that foster creativity, confidence and career-ready skills for students across Harris County. Organizers highlighted ways local leaders and educators could support EFHC and CASE for Kids through sponsorships and silent auction donations, while strengthening partnerships that benefit students and families.
Community support is critical in expanding opportunities for young people, and events like the Heart of Education Luncheon help sustain programs that equip students with the skills, confidence and experiences they need to succeed. Co-hosts of Culture Club HTX Shavonnah Roberts Schreiber and Leisa Holland-Nelson Bowman will return as co-emcees of the luncheon scheduled for 11 a.m. on May 13 at the Junior League of Houston.
