HCDE Celebrates School Board Recognition Month

Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) joins school districts and educational agencies this month in celebrating School Board Recognition Month. The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) spearheads the statewide initiative that honors and appreciates school board trustees for their commitment to students and service to their communities as volunteers.

HCDE’s 2026 recognition theme is: “HCDE is Varsity,” carrying over from the Convocation theme this past August.

School boards oversee the operation of local public schools and districts, and work to ensure students receive a high-quality education. School Board Recognition Month is the opportunity to show trustees how much their work, leadership and commitment to improving schools and education is appreciated.

HCDE will gather on Jan. 21 at the Irvington Conference Center for a reception to recognize its trustees and their contributions to #TeamHCDE. The event will include small bites, tokens of appreciation presented by the Department and our Special Schools division, and a celebratory video.

#TeamHCDE’s celebration will continue on social media throughout the month as posts profiling each board member will be published on HCDE’s three main platforms.
