Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) leaders and community partners visited Head Start campuses the week of Nov. 13 as part of the Real SuperMENtors Read program, enjoying storytime with the county’s youngest learners by reading “A Very Special Vegetable,” by Anna Bardaus.

Part of the Head Start Significant Male Initiative to bridge together male role models with students, volunteers visit the centers and read to the students. Mentors typically read the second Thursday of the month from October through April. November’s book highlights different vegetables and how they all fit into healthy nutrition.

Among those who read to students this week were HCDE Superintendent James Colbert Jr., assistant superintendents Dr. Jesus Amezcua, Dr. CJ Rodgers, Dr. Arthur Sylvester and Jonathan Parkers, and a number of division directors.
