On Oct. 30, Harris County Department of Education Assistant Superintendent of Education and Enrichment Dr. CJ Rodgers and the Center for Safe and Secure Schools team attended the Region 4 School Safety Expo. They met with fellow educators, first responders, emergency management personnel and community members. Attendees shared best practices and gained insights on the latest trends and strategies in school safety. Among the sessions was a panel discussion with top Texas Education Agency leaders Dr. Brooks Straub, Executive Director of School Safety and Operations, and Assistant Chief of School Safety and Security John Jones. Other breakouts included the 89th Legislation impact on emergency operations, empowering youth in opioid prevention and supporting school safety through strategic procurement.

Cool article — the fact that the Harris County Department of Education’s Center for Safe and Secure Schools team joined emergency‑management leaders at the Region 4 School Safety Expo shows how school safety really means more than just classroom management — it’s about emergency ops, legislation, youth prevention, and procurement too.
