Knowledge and creativity were on full display on Oct. 24 as students from Highpoint School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month. Channelview High School mariachi band members kicked off the event with an arrangement that put smiles on faces and made people want to dance. Some educators received an opportunity to inform students about their native countries through pre-recorded student interviews throughout the program. They provided details on customs, traditions and food from countries, including Mexico, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Students then participated in a fashion show, donning cultural attire and displaying the flag of their countries. The celebration was an opportunity to inform students and educators about the rich Hispanic and Latin histories in a fun, interactive way. Observed annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes the invaluable contributions of the vibrant traditions and values of people whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
