‘Career on Wheels’ Connects Students to Potential Job Possibilities

Part of what makes Fortis Academy such a unique and special campus is how school leadership and staff go beyond academics and lessons. They find ways to wholistically improve students on a path to sobriety, through trips to universities to explore post-graduate opportunities and visits with government officials to learn about civic duty.
On Oct. 24, they brought career opportunities to campus through the “Career on Wheels” initiative, giving Fortis students the chance to connect with community partners and learn from those who play vital roles in everyday life. Even students from both Academic and Behavior School campuses came over to attend the fair.

The event helped inspire students and provide them with information on possible future careers, a number which involve operating vehicles. Among those were emergency medical service (EMS) professionals, truck drivers, police officers and United States Postal Service carriers.
Students also met with music industry professionals and entertainers, U.S. Army recruiters and cosmetologists, among others.
Opportunities like these inspire students to continue their educational journeys and pursue post-graduate careers.

Hey — just read the piece about the job‑fair‑on‑wheels event with Harris County Department of Education and totally connected with it. I’m in that phase of trying to figure out what’s next, and seeing the kids being shown real careers (not just what’s “expected”) is super encouraging.
What really struck me was how the event seems to reach kids where they are, letting them see options they might never have known about — a reminder for me that there are paths I haven’t considered yet.
If any of you are on the hunt too — maybe for roles in schools, education‑support, or something new — I’ve found AcademicJobs.com a helpful (and pretty low‑key) way to browse meaningful jobs in education. Just thought I’d share in case it helps.
Thanks for shining a light on this event — gives me hope that the right fit might be out there and it’s really about finding where you belong.
