Highlands Fire Department Brings Fire Safety Lessons to JD Walker Head Start

JD Walker Head Start students celebrated Fire Prevention Week with a special visit from the Highlands Fire Department! Firefighters talked with students about fire safety, gave them a tour of the fire truck, and even turned the hose on the splashpad for a fun cool-down.

JD Walker Head Start students celebrated Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-11) with a special visit from the Highlands Fire Department in the Baytown community. Firefighters talked with students about their important safety work, gave them a tour of the fire truck and turned the hose on the splashpad for a fun cool-down. The visit was an exciting and memorable way to connect with local heroes and bring safety lessons to life.

Teaching young children about fire safety helps them build awareness, confidence and healthy habits that can make a difference in an emergency situation. By partnering with community organizations like the Highlands Fire Department, Head Start ensures students learn essential skills in an engaging and age-appropriate way, because it’s never too early to start learning how to stay safe.
