Dozens of greater Houston community male volunteers joined numerous Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) leaders this week in kicking off the 2025-2026 SuperMENtors Campaign.

As part of the Head Start Significant Male Initiative, SuperMENtors began in 2002 and connects male role models with students at HCDE Head Start centers. Among the SuperMENtors reading to Harris County’s youngest learners this year are Superintendent James Colbert Jr., all four Executive Leadership Team male staff members and various division directors. They join community volunteers and business partners at the 12 campuses.

Mentors commit to visit their respective centers monthly. Reading dates are scheduled for the second Thursday of each month from October through May.
