Communications and Creative Services welcomed more than 80 school public relations professionals on Sept. 25 for the annual “Meet the Press” roundtable. Hosted in conjunction with the Houston Area School Public Relations Association (HASPRA), members meet monthly to network, share innovative strategies and draw support from colleagues who face similar challenges in school communications.

Seven press members were invited to meet with district personnel in small groups to discuss how to establish or improve media partnerships and maintain connections throughout the year. Journalists also discussed broadcast/print coverage opportunities and shared best practices on marketing story ideas and communicating with outlets during a crisis.

Representatives from the Houston Chronicle, Community Impact, Houston Business Journal and Rice University Kinder Institute for Urban Research attended.

The annual roundtable event is vital to ensure school communicators have media support when informing the community about student success, innovative programs and safety concerns throughout the year.
