Five for Five: Tools for Teachers Sets New Record Enrollment Time

Five minutes! That’s all the time it took for more than 2,000 teachers to request Tools for Teachers vouchers on Harris County Department of Education’s website when registration opened on Aug. 22. Now in its fifth year, the program is designed to support Harris County independent school district teachers by mitigating the personal costs incurred for classroom supplies at the start of the academic year.

The Education Foundation of Harris County (EFHC) provided $125,000 for this initiative, which the HCDE Board of Trustees allocated from its annual budget. The first 1,250 eligible registered teachers will receive $100 credit to purchase classroom supplies through local vendor, Challenge Office Products, from Sept. 8-15.

Efforts to promote the credit included contacting local media, coverage on small blog sites and emails to school district communication representatives across Harris County. Each outlet boasted the benefits of the Tools for Teachers program and EFHC’s efforts to support school districts.

Eagerness for the initiative highlights Harris County educators’ passion and determination to equip their students with the best tools for success. This continued demand also underscores HCDE and EFHC’s dedication to supporting teachers and enriching learning across local classrooms.
