As one of the longest-tenured members of the University Interscholastic League’s (UIL) State Executive Committee, Superintendent James Colbert Jr. was recently elected vice chairman for the 2025-2026 school year during the committee’s Aug. 6 meeting.

Committee members are appointed by the Commissioner of the Texas Education Agency and the committee is comprised of eight current or former school administrators representing the state’s four geographical regions and six UIL conferences. It interprets rules, settles disputes between UIL districts and those which arise past the district level, conducts investigations and hearings of alleged violations, and hears appeals.
