CASE for Kids, County Commissioners Award $1.4M in Grants for County Connections Initiative

Children participate in an activity at Julia C. Hester House, a community center in Houston's Fifth Ward on July 26, 2023. Hester House was awarded a $20,000 County Connections grant in 2023. Funding for the County Connections Project is provided by Harris County and administered by the Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment for Kids or CASE for Kids, a division of Harris County Department of Education.

When the final school bell rings, millions of students across Harris County will need a safe and educational environment to spend their days and avoid the summer learning gap. That’s where the partnership between CASE for Kids and Harris County Commissioners comes in! The division recently announced the 2025 County Connections Youth Summer Initiative grant awardees for nonprofits that offer youth summer enrichment programs and camps across the county.

CASE for Kids Summer Learning Day held at the YET Center in Precinct 1, July 12, 2018.

More than $1.4 million was awarded to more than 70 organizations that provide programming such as fine arts, robotics, sports and college readiness initiatives. The initiative disbursed grants ranging from $5,250 to $20,000 for programming scheduled for June-August 2025.

Nonprofits from all four county precincts receive grants and services are tailored to meet the community’s needs. Funds are used to purchase materials and supplies for activities, add programming opportunities, reduce fees or offer scholarships to families. Funding for the initiative is provided by Harris County and administered to vetted programs by CASE for Kids.
