Marketing Team Attends National Interpreters, Translators in Education Conference

As the Marketing & Client Engagement Division prepares for Harris County Department of Education’s (HCDE) inaugural Professional Translators & Interpreters Conference (PTIC) in July, team members recently attended a national conference to network with fellow industry professionals, build relationships with partners and learn strategies and insights to best serve future conference attendees.

Director Stephanie De Los Santos, Translations Coordinator Wendy Utterback and Coordinator Lanette Gonzales-Tonsul attended the American Association of Interpreters and Translators in Education (AAITE) annual conference, held May 2-3 in Long Beach, Calif. They served as exhibitors, showcasing HCDE divisions and services. Conference sessions included skill development and breakouts, and a panel discussion on ethics.

Registration is underway for PTIC, scheduled for July 24 at the Irvington conference center. The theme is “Out of the Shadows and Into the Spotlight” and it’s designed to celebrate the vital role of language professionals across the county. Dr. Lupita Hinojosa, Spring Independent School District superintendent, will deliver the keynote address, while Orange County Department of Education Coordinator-Language Services Natalia Abarca will be a featured speaker.
