Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) Civic Engagement Coordinator Avery Spranger served as a featured speaker at the League of Women Voters of Montgomery County annual workshop. Held on April 5 at Sam Houston State University – The Woodlands Center, the networking event connected women and featured the theme, “Together! Inspiring Generations.”
Spranger joined Dr. Annie Benifield, Houston Voting Initiative president and Lone Star College professor emerita, as a keynote speaker. Benifield discussed her education journey and creating a new path for others in civic engagement. Spranger spoke on intergenerational communication and how to broaden the movement of young adults to involve more people.
Attendees also heard from Lone Star College-Kingwood students Daniela Barrera and Juliana Jordan whose video project addresses issues most important to their specific population. A Q&A panel with all four participants closed the event.
