On March 21, more than 100 out-of-school time professionals and program representatives got into the action for the betterment of Harris County students at the Center for Afterschool, Summer and Enrichment (CASE) for Kids Spring Symposium. The professional development was a collaborative event between CASE for Kids and the YMCA, and helped attendees gain insight and learn strategies to further student well-being and skill building.

Opening the day as keynote speaker was Wendy Dawson, the executive director of Social Motion Skills, a program under the Spectrum Linx Foundation which strives to empower individuals with autism and special needs. Social Motion Skills offers classes for various age groups, young adult social groups and transition services to independence.

The program was separated into six sessions, covering lessons that included effective family engagement techniques, learning to lead in out-of-school time, a practical guide to state assessments and creating consent culture within a program. CASE for Kids Outreach Coordinator Michael Wilson and Quality Navigator Austin Yorko were among the presenters.

A lunch and networking session concluded the symposium.
