Students and educators across Harris County Department of Education campuses celebrated a major milestone on Feb. 18 – 100 days smarter, kinder and stronger!

Head Start campuses encouraged our youngest learners to dress like centenarians, and parents helped their kids rise to the occasion. Girls donned their best ‘old lady’ dresses and pearls while the boys were dressed to the nines in their suits and suspenders. Many even wore wigs to bring the look together and used makeup to add a few age lines to their faces.

A similar scene played out at Academic and Behavior School West as educators helped students create presentations to celebrate the 100th day of the school year. Middle and high schoolers were given poster boards to decorate with anything from beans, stickers or even photos of themselves – as long as there were 100 items!

Throughout the day, students and staff acted like senior citizens and counted the many reasons why students are successful. Reasons include Head Start students gaining a foundation for learning and developing social-emotional skills, and Special School students gaining behavior strategies to improve their academic experience. At this time in the school year, teachers are focused on reinforcing those basic skills and milestones.
