Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) Trustee for Position 7, At-Large, David W. Brown, announced his resignation in January 2025.

Following Brown’s resignation, HCDE has opened a call for applications to fill the now-vacant board position for the remainder of the term for Position 7, which expires December 2026. Interested individuals must reside in Harris County and submit their resume, a letter of interest and an affidavit of eligibility to Board Secretary Jessica Bermea at jbermea@hcde-texas.org no later than Feb. 21, 2025.

Those interested in being appointed to fill the vacant position should address the following in their letters of interest: (1) whether the individual intends to run for the HCDE Trustee Position 7 seat in the 2026 Harris County primary and general elections; (2) the individual’s availability to attend the Board’s regular meetings, which are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m.; and (3) the individual’s commitment to advocating on behalf of HCDE and its programs.

The HCDE Board of Trustees anticipates appointing an individual to fill the vacant seat at its meeting on April 16, 2025. Individuals who are interested in being appointed to fill the vacant seat will be provided a brief opportunity to speak at the Board meeting on April 16, 2025.
