HCDE Celebrates School Board Recognition Month

HCDE Board of Trustees and Superintendent James Colbert Jr. pose for a photo in the HCDE Board Auditorium.

This month, Harris County Department of Education joins school districts in celebrating School Board Recognition Month. The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) spearheads the statewide initiative that honors school board trustees for their commitment and contributions to students.

Embracing a “Leadership for Tomorrow’s Texas” theme, educators, students and local districts will highlight trustees’ dedication to creating meaningful educational experiences and opportunities that prepare students for college, careers and beyond across various platforms including social media, in-person celebrations and more.

Board members serving HCDE are Board President Amy Hinojosa, First Vice President David Brown, Second Vice President Erica Davis, and members Richard Cantu, Andrea Duhon, Eric Dick and Dr. John McGee. #TeamHCDE will gather on Jan. 15 at the Irvington Conference Center for a reception to recognize trustees’ contributions to the organization. The event will include small bites, tokens of appreciation presented by the Department and our Special Schools division, and a celebratory video featuring students and staff.

The celebration continues on social media as posts profiling each board member will be published on HCDE’s three main platforms throughout the month.
