In what is a long-standing Thanksgiving tradition, the Business Services division delivered holiday cheer to a pair of Harris County families this week. Led by Dr. Jesus Amezcua, Harris County Department of Education assistant superintendent of business services, division team members visited Compton Head Start on Nov. 21.

In hand were Thanksgiving baskets for two deserving families, selected based on their need for assistance, including nutrition support. The students and their families were surprised with the offerings – a basket full of fruits and vegetables, canned good to prepare delicious sides and a turkey voucher.

Amezcua is a longtime Head Start SuperMENtor at the Compton campus, reading to students monthly as part of the program. But he also goes the extra mile, which includes dressing up as Santa Clause during his December visit. He started his initiative of adopting Compton Head Start families years ago and he and his team have continued to answer the call to support these families.
