Harris County Department of Education’s Facilities Team is making significant strides in upgrading the air conditioning systems at the North Post Oak building. As part of this initiative, manufacturer representatives were invited to present their latest innovations to HCDE maintenance technicians and the highlight was an unexpected showstopper – a mobile Roof Top Unit (RTU) demonstration on wheels.

The impressive $300,000 rig features a fully operational 480v air conditioning unit powered by a three-phase diesel generator mounted on the back of a truck. The unit is equipped with a 75-inch flat screen for control interface demonstrations, showcasing the advanced technology CaptiveAire brings to HVAC solutions.
CaptiveAire Regional Manager Fernando Jimenez delivered the demonstration, highlighting innovative features of their latest RTUs. The units are designed with factory-installed LED lighting for enhanced visibility during repairs and a SIM card-enabled system for real-time monitoring and remote control, accessible to both service technicians and the manufacturer.
The RTUs also boast cutting-edge efficiency features, including variable-speed compressors, condenser fans and blower motors, ensuring optimal performance and energy savings.

CaptiveAire is among three manufacturers HCDE is considering for the new units. The showcase provided valuable insight into the advanced capabilities of CaptiveAire’s HVAC technology and sets the stage for implementing innovative solutions at NPO.
