Highpoint School is dubbed the place of second chances, and part of its philosophy is ensuring that students have a future no matter what their past entails. Campus leaders hosted a College and Career Fair on Nov. 18 to connect high school students with opportunities for every path to success.
Scholars interested in higher education visited with representatives from several local community colleges and universities, including Lee College, San Jacinto Community College and Dillard University. Campus ambassadors shared vital information about the admission process, financial responsibilities, scholarship availability and degree plans. For students unsure about college, the fair offered hope for admission after graduation.
Highpoint leaders also provided several career options that don’t require a college degree. First responders and medical technicians discussed jobs that present on-the-job training. They welcomed students to participate in hands-on demonstrations that showcased how to resuscitate patients in the field or draw blood at a testing center. Following their Veterans Day program last week, students also received one-on-one attention from recruiters in the Army, Navy and Marines, who informed the group about basic training, postings and the potential life-long benefits of joining the military.
Though making decisions about one’s future can be difficult, the College and Career Fair provided a safe place for students to explore, ask questions and gain inspiration to dream bigger.
