Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) and Education Foundation of Harris County (EFHC) leadership continued supporting local initiatives at recent events, and in turn, leverages these partnerships to support Harris County students and educators through district sponsorships, innovative campus grants, school supplies in classrooms and scholarships for graduating seniors.
Education Foundation and Partnerships Director Trina Silva and attended a pair of events by the Power on Heels Fund, an organization committed to empowering Latinas of all ages, industries and backgrounds through impactful programs, mentorship and scholarships. On Nov. 11, Silva and Courtney Taylor, one of EFHC’s new advisory board members, joined 20 other guests for the Power on Heels Fund dinner. Silva was a guest the next day at the Power on Heels Fund 6th Annual Luncheon and Scholarship Award reception at the Junior League of Houston.
On Nov. 12, Silva, EFHC Intern Hadi Totonchian and HCDE Civic Engagement Coordinator Avery Spranger attended the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs fall mixer, which recognized the Civic Houston Internship Program participants, alumni and community leaders. The internship program connects government offices, nonprofit organizations, campaigns and partners in the private sector to University of Houston students each fall and spring semester. Since its beginning 25 years ago, more than 1,700 students have secured internships in the Houston area.
