With 700 voting centers reporting from the Nov. 5 election for three seats on the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) Board of Trustees, unofficial results indicate that Richard Cantu was re-elected to Position 3, At-Large; Eric Dick was re-elected to Position 4, Precinct 3; and Dr. John McGee was re-elected to Position 6, Precinct 1.
For the Position 3, At-Large seat, Richard Cantu received 758,285 votes (52.41%) over opponent Danielle Dick, who drew 688,557 votes (47.59%). Cantu will begin his second term of service to HCDE.
The election drew 1,446,842 for the Position 3, At-Large seat.
For the Position 4, Precinct 3 seat, incumbent Eric Dick ran unopposed and received 359,864 votes. Dick has served on the HCDE Board of Trustees since January 2017, as he was first elected to Position 2, Precinct 4. Following his term, the Board appointed Dick to fill the Trustee Andrea Duhon’s former Position 4, Precinct 3 seat. Dick will begin his second full term of service to HCDE.
For the Position 6, Precinct 1 seat, incumbent Dr. John McGee ran unopposed and received 278,153 votes. McGee has served on the HCDE Board of Trustees since November 2023, as he was unanimously appointed to fulfill the remainder of the term previously held by Danny Norris, who stepped down to pursue a candidacy for state office. Dr. McGee will begin his first full term of service to HCDE.
Overall, early voting accounted for 76.9%, 79.9% and 75.6% of the ballots cast in each of the three respective races.
