In continuing to better serve Harris County learners, Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) and Adult Education leaders traveled on Nov. 5-7 to visit the San Diego College of Continuing Education (SDCCE) and learn strategies and initiatives from one of the nation’s oldest and largest noncredit institutions.
Representing HCDE on the site visit was Dr. CJ Rodgers, assistant superintendent of Education and Enrichment; Dr. Eduardo Honold, Adult Education senior director; Linda Fehoko, Adult Education director; and Mark Perez, career pathways manager. They met with Andrei Lucas, dean of automotive, skilled and technical trades; Dr. Tami Foy, foundation executive director; Dr. Minou Spradley, vice president of instructional services; and Dr. Shakerra Carter, vice president of student services.

SDCCE is the adult education division of the San Diego Community College District. As California’s largest provider of noncredit education, SDCCE serves approximately 40,000 students annually across seven campuses and additional programming at off-campus sites throughout San Diego.
Citizenship, high school equivalency and English as a second language classes are available, while other academic areas include child development, clothing and textiles, digital media, HVAC and healthcare. SDCCE also offers support services for students with disabilities, focused instruction for adults over 55 years old (emeritus), and continuing education classes that include meal planning, automotive services and printmaking.
Established in 1914, SDCCE is the largest institution of its kind in the nation and was awarded the Sickle Entrepreneurial College of the Year in 2019 by the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship for its wide and varied curriculum.
