Over the last few weeks, students at Harris County Department of Education’s Special Schools showed off their creativity to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, which ends October 15.

In the classroom, teachers led lessons about the histories, traditions and values of Spanish-speaking people whose ancestors hail from Central and South America, the Caribbean, Mexico and Spain. Students also participated in interactive activities throughout the month.

Highpoint students put on a talent showcase entitled, “Viva la Cultura: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage,” on Oct. 10. It featured student performances, a fashion show and keynote speeches from Vicki Cruz, president and founder of non-profit Mission Once USA, and Victor Escalante, co-founder of Escalante Performance Solutions.
