Head Start representatives convened at the Irvington Conference Center for two days, connecting 10 new Region VI directors with their veteran counterparts for networking, planning and professional development. Among the mentor directors was Venetia Peacock, Harris County Department of Education’s Head Start senior director. 

The two-day New Director Mentoring Program on Oct. 1-2 helped bring together experienced Head Start directors with those new to the role to better support them and set them up for success across the region, which serves Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Sessions over the two days covered topics including organizational culture, financial leadership and mental wellness. Participants also developed action plans and worked on mentor-mentee team activities.
