Business Services Discusses Risk Management with International Finance Professionals

Business Services represented Harris County Department of Education at the Association of School Business Officials International Conference & Expo on Sept. 18-20 in Nashville, Tennessee. The annual event brings together nearly 1,000 school business leaders worldwide for professional development and educational sessions covering topics impacting school finance.

Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Dr. Jesus Amezcua and Chief Accounting Officer Marcia Leiva led more than 40 attendees in a workshop entitled “Risk Assessment and the CFO: A new partnership to assess programs and internal controls.” School finance professionals gained resources to develop systemic processes that identify, evaluate and manage risks to a district’s finances and reputation. HCDE leaders also provided insight into the services and resources provided by the Department and best practices for managing district business offices.
