Education Foundation of Harris County (EFHC) leaders recently visited ESPN Houston 97.5 FM and shared the positive happenings of the non-profit organization and its upcoming luncheon.
EFHC Director Trina Silva joined Danielle Bartz, Harris County Department of Education chief of staff, as featured guests on Culture Club HTX, a radio show and video series that showcases unique businesses, community and culture in Houston. Co-hosts Leisa Holland-Nelson and Shavonnah Roberts Schreiber launched Culture Club THX in March and will serve as co-chairs for the Second Annual EFHC Heart of Education Luncheon, scheduled for Oct. 3 at the Junior League of Houston.

Through its partnership with HCDE, the foundation funds programs impacting thousands of students throughout 25 area independent school districts and that cultivate talented educators.
“Little children grow up to become adults and we’ll have to engage with them, so I want to make sure people are equipped to be productive citizens,” Schreiber said.
The luncheon’s theme – Journey Through the Looking Glass of Early Childhood Learning – illustrates HCDE and EFHC’s commitment to supporting and enhancing educational opportunities for Harris County’s youngest learners.
“A lot of you may know a looking glass as a mirror, so I want everyone who is listening to look in the mirror and I want you to see the person that can make difference in a young person’s life,” Silva said during the interview. “We want people to invest in those young children because those children are going to become our future leaders.”

Added Bartz: “It’s a theme that had so much meat on it…We’ve been doing this work for decades so it’s time to have the community come in and take part.”
The interview first aired July 28 on Culture Club HTX’s weekly slot on ESPN Radio 97.5 FM. It’s also now available on the show’s Spotify channel (click here for the episode).
