CASE for Kids staff made a deal with each other to continue providing enriching educational experiences for students across Harris County during their annual two-day retreat. Making a play on the popular game show “Let’s Make a Deal,” the teambuilding event embraced a gamer theme which fostered an environment for engaging activities, professional development and individual growth.

Senior Director Lisa Caruthers and Chief of Staff Danielle Bartz led more than 40 CASE for Kids team members on July 23 in various activities requiring teamwork and communication. Laughter filled a room at Dave and Buster’s as employees competed during an afterschool and HCDE-inspired round of Jeopardy, a scavenger hunt and more.

Everyone was encouraged to complete personal assessments as the staff mindset shifted to professional development. These evaluations helped employees identify and leverage their unique strengths to contribute to the afterschool program’s collective success.

On day two of the retreat, the group moved to United Way, where Caruthers and Bartz honored team members with awards for their hard work and dedication throughout the summer.

The annual retreat energizes CASE for Kids employees and reminds them of their mission and vital role in shaping students’ lives. With renewed enthusiasm, the retreat prepares the team to focus on out-of-school-time programming for the upcoming school year.
