According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), this summer will be filled with heat and hurricanes. Forecasters at the Climate Prediction Center are expecting above-normal activity during the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, which spans from June 1 to November 30.
“NOAA National Weather Service predicts an 85% chance of an above-normal season, a 10% chance of a near-normal season and a 5% chance of a below-normal season,” as stated on the NOAA website.
Experts are forecasting more than two dozen named storms with an average of 39 miles per hour winds or higher. Of those, between 8 to 13 are predicted to become hurricanes, including up to 7 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5) that could bring winds of 111 miles per hour or higher.
With the prediction of an active hurricane season and additional unprecedented natural disasters occurring across the county, Choice Partners aims to guide members to safety and the best procurement practices that will withstand FEMA scrutiny and meet product and service needs.
“Severe weather and emergencies can happen at any moment, which is why individuals and communities need to be prepared today,” said FEMA Deputy Administrator Erik A. Hooks in a NOAA article. “Already, we are seeing storms move across the country that can bring additional hazards like tornadoes, flooding and hail. Taking a proactive approach to our increasingly challenging climate landscape can make a difference in how people recover tomorrow.”
Entities can contact Choice Partners before they’re affected by a disaster, or if they’re looking for recovery assistance, for disaster-related contracts to help streamline the Remediation and Restoration/Build-Back process for their facilities.
The Cooperative offers contracts with EDGAR-compliant vendors for debris removal, disaster mitigation, recovery consultants, roofing, HVAC systems and more that meet FEMA requirements.
