“Ready, Set, Go!” Special School students were off for a day of fun, excitement and spirited competition at the Academic and Behavioral Schools (ABS) East and West Field Days on May 24. The special day brings life skills and behavior students together for sporting activities, engaging games and celebrating the culmination of a year’s worth of learning.

Field Day is more than a chance to have fun—it’s a valuable opportunity for students to practice essential skills learned throughout the academic year. From peer collaboration and effective communication to employing social-emotional strategies in real-world scenarios, students can showcase their growth in a supportive environment. At the same time, educators can provide necessary correction and safety.

Educators fostered a space for learning opportunities by requiring students to use their knowledge in mathematics, English and science to participate engaging activities like relay races, tug-of-war and various games. The highlight of the day for some students was a chance to smash a pie in their favorite teacher’s face.

As the academic year ends on June 4, Field Day is a testament to the resilience, teamwork and spirit of our Special Schools community.
