Harris County Department of Education ushered in a new era at the May monthly board meeting, unanimously selecting Precinct 2 Trustee Amy Flores Hinojosa as board president.

Superintendent James Colbert Jr. expressed his gratitude to outgoing Board President Andrea Duhon for her advocacy and continuous commitment to ensuring students in Harris County have the necessary resources and education to thrive.

Afterward, Duhon transferred the gavel to Hinojosa, signifying the change in office.

“A little over five years ago, Trustee Duhon and I were planning her election, and I wasn’t even thinking about running at the time, but it’s amazing what can happen in just over five years,” Hinojosa said as she addressed fellow trustees. “This position is a great honor; thank you and I look forward to this year.”

Newly elected officers for the 2024-2025 school year include:

  • First Vice President David Brown
  • Second Vice President Erica Davis
