HCDE Superintendent James Colbert Jr. visited Dogan Head Start on April 17 as part of the Real SuperMENtors Read program, enjoying storytime with the young learners by reading “Sunshine and Snowballs” by Margaret Wise Brown.

Volunteers, including Colbert and members of the HCDE executive leadership team helped close out the reading initiative this month. Mentors commit to at least one hour, once a month from October to April, to reach students.

The program is part of Head Start’s Significant Male Initiative and recruits, selects and assigns mentors to each location. Male role models are encouraged to get involved and stay involved throughout HCDE Head Start centers. There are currently 40 SuperMENtors in the program.
