Dr. Tyrone Sylvester to Receive High Honors from Texas Black Expo

Harris County Department of Education’s Executive Director of Human Resources is adding another award to his lengthy list of accolades. Dr. Tyrone Sylvester will be honored by the Texas Black Expo (TBE) this May at the Corporate Awards Luncheon and Excellence in Education event for his unwavering commitment to educators.

TBE helps underserved communities reach economic prosperity by supporting businesses in their efforts to become the cornerstone of strong, sustainable communities. The 21st Annual Corporate Awards Luncheon is one of the Expo’s most anticipated events of the year, attracting top business executives, corporate influencers and community leaders from across the state.

Selected for his professional achievements in administration and education, Sylvester will receive the “Outstanding Central Office Administrator” award. He has more than 30 years of educational experience, which includes service as a band director and principal before transitioning to human resources in 2008.

“It’s absolutely humbling that the Texas Black Expo would think enough of me and my contributions to the educational process to select me for such a great honor,” Sylvester said. “This award confirms that if you follow your heart and do what is right for the children, people and communities you serve, your name will be mentioned in rooms that you’ve never entered. They will be rooms of opportunity, recognition, and favor.”

In addition to his commitment to #TeamHCDE, Sylvester is a District II board member for the Texas Association of School Personnel Administrators. The organization provides the necessary tools, strategies and approaches to help school districts with or without a human resources department thrive in an ever-changing industry.

“I hope that this award inspires our HCDE workforce to seek opportunities daily to serve and love people with humility knowing that they too will be exalted in due season,” Sylvester said.

Sylvester will be honored May 17 at the J.W. Marriott. Proceeds from the event will help TBE fulfill its commitment to education and youth empowerment by supporting the ASPIRE Youth Entrepreneurship Program and Camp.
