Through its partnership with the Harris County Public Library system, HCDE’s Adult Education division recently received a donation of 500 T-Mobile hotspots for its students through the “New Year, New Gear” initiative.

Harris County Public Library, which was the original recipient of the hotspots from T-Mobile, decided to donate their surplus devices to HCDE to not let them go unused. The donated devices will provide access and opportunities for adult learners completing education literacy and workforce classes.

The first batch of hotspots were handed out to more than a dozen individuals who signed up for GED classes through HCDE and attended an orientation on December 13.

The remaining hotspots will be furnished to Adult Education students over the coming months who express a need for the devices. Recipients of the hotspots will have access to free, unlimited 5G data for the rest of the year and will be able to keep the device after the 1-year contract expires.
