Alief ISD trustee Darlene Breaux, was recently selected to serve on Raise Your Hand Texas’ (RYHT) Measure What Matters Assessment and Accountability Council. The Council is part of RYHT’s campaign to lay the groundwork for a more robust district accountability system. Breaux is HCDE’s Director of Research and Evaluation.
“As a school board member, I have been fairly outspoken about the weight of the accountability system on school districts and the pressure it puts on teachers,” said Breaux. “You can’t paint all districts with the same brush.”
The Council’s work will have two major phases. The first phase will be geared towards research and reviewing best practices concerning assessment and accountability. The second will focus on promoting the Council’s findings and legislative recommendations. Council members will discuss policy initiatives every 6-8 weeks leading up to the 88th Texas Legislative Session in 2023.
Breaux also serves on the Texas Association of School Boards’ (TASB) Board of Directors. Breaux credits her selection to her expertise in Texas public education data, professional associations, outreach with policymakers, and strong opinions on district accountability.
