36th annual R.T. Garcia Early Childhood Winter Conference promotes powerfully literate lives
4January 11, 2022 by HCDE Communications
Early childhood educators from far and wide will learn from national speakers and fellow educators during HCDE’s 36th annual R.T. Garcia Early Childhood Winter Conference, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2022.

The virtual, one-day conference, which typically attracts over 1,000 educators, features dual keynote speakers Niki Spears, co-founder of the Energy Bus for School Leadership Journey, and Lester L. Laminack, a full-time author, consultant, and professor emeritus of Western Carolina University. The event’s namesake, former HCDE Board President R.T. Garcia, will make closing remarks.
Laminack, a former editor of the Children’s Book Review Department for the National Council of Teachers of English’s journal, “Language Arts,” will explore the role of authentic literature, choice, and the power of reading aloud to students of all ages. Spears will lead educators in a discussion about adapting to the challenges presented by COVID-19.
Breakout sessions will discuss child growth and development, diversity and dual language learners, family and community relationships, and curriculum and standards.
Educators can review the agenda and reserve their “seat” at cvent.me/DXKMGG.
