Eleven students graduated from Harris County Department of Education’s Academic and Behavior School West on May 31. Many also returned to their home schools to take part in commencement ceremonies. Here are some highlights from the ceremony as family members and community partners celebrated the students.
“One of the biggest things we try to prepare our students for is graduation. Today we release our students into society to contribute and be productive citizens. That wouldn’t be possible without the support of our staff and our parents.” – HCDE Superintendent James Colbert Jr.
“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction that you choose. You are on your own. You know what you know, so you are the guy or girl who will determine where you go.” – Assistant Superintendent for Academic Support Services Jonathan Parker quoting Dr. Seuss
“As a teacher it’s always a great joy seeing all the work you put in, all the struggles, all the talks. It finally gets to that point where you see them walk across that stage and they turn that tassel. That’s a great joy.” – Teacher Roland Hayes
