The event begins with breakout sessions on school safety topics throughout the day. Keynote speaker will be Juliet Stipeche, City of Houston director of education.
School safety concerns range from juvenile law updates to current drug trends. Restorative Justice is introduced to help educators build relationships with students throughout the school day as a means to hold students accountable. Other breakout sessions beginning at 9:45 a.m. address Internet crimes against children, suicide prevention and human trafficking.
This year’s theme, “I PLEDGE TO KEEP MY SCHOOL SAFE,” emphasizes the ways that the combined work of individuals leads to a community-minded culture and increased safety.
For the third consecutive year, the School Safety Summit will take place at Harris County Department of Education, 6300 Irvington Blvd., Houston, Texas.
