Teaching Tip: Recognize students for jobs well done

Think back to a time when someone recognized you for an accomplishment or the amount of time you put forth toward a team goal. Remember how you felt? We all enjoy being recognized for a job well done or even asserting effort toward a challenging task, and the same is especially true for students.
Using the practice of recognition can be a powerful motivator in the classroom. Many times, a statement as simple as “I appreciate that you didn’t give up when the work challenged you today” is exactly what a student needs to hear to stay motivated.
