Harris County Commissioners Adrian Garcia (Precinct 2) and Lesley Briones (Precinct 4) convened executives from various organizations across the region Jan. 27 to discuss the future of early childhood initiatives within the county. Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) Superintendent James Colbert Jr. joined the conversation, along with executives from Greater Houston Partnership, Houston Endowment, Rice University, Houston-Galveston Area Council, Children at Risk, United Way of Greater Houston and Baker Ripley, to strategically plan for how to continue programs when American Rescue Plan Act funds run out this year. Colbert will also participate in monthly sub-committee meetings regarding this issue.
