Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) Superintendent James Colbert Jr. and Assistant Superintendent for Academic Support Services Jonathan Parker visited three Head Start campuses on Sept. 24 to check on the division’s newest centers and the progress of projects at the Barrett Station and Coolwood facilities.

They began the day visiting Humble Head Start and Early Head Start, which opened its new facility to some of Harris County’s youngest learners in January. The new building for Early Head Start features four classrooms and an adjacent new playground for students.

At Barrett Station Head Start, Colbert and Parker visited the new Early Head Start building and also received an update on the playground project.

They ended their visit at the new Coolwood facility, which was originally expected to open for the first day of classes, however the building was impacted during Hurricane Beryl in July. HCDE’s Facilities division and construction crews are working to repair damage and prepare the building for students.
